Title: “Puia Pareidolia Tall Mini in Kārikihāura Olive”, Stoneware fired NZ black clay with mixed glaze.
by Karen Wilde, 2022.
Pareidolia is the ability to see faces or familiar objects/patterns in unrelated objects. Once viewed as a form of Psychosis, now seen as a form of creativity.
Experimental processes of including both inorganic and natural organic materials to the clay body, glazes and firing process result in every piece displaying unique surface textures. This multi-layered object depicts olive green glaze and dripping, bubbly white flow snow accents.
Inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand’s native bush and snow-capped volcanic mountains. Each piece in this series is handbuilt from layers of clay and original in both shape and finish. Can be used as an incense burner, baseless mini flower vase or mini pot cover.
