Description
Title: Puia Pareidolia Mini
Raku Earthenware fired NZ red clay with copper and mixed glaze reduction.
Size: 8x6cm
Pareidolia is the ability to see faces or familiar objects/patterns in unrelated objects. Once viewed as a form of Psychosis, now seen as a form of creativity.
A delicious crackle and snow glaze sculpture was pulled red-hot from the raku kiln and transferred to a firey reduction chamber with combustibles. This produces unpredictable surface colours and glaze patterns while leaving smokey scorched marks on the raw clay areas.
This texture built object depicts a heavy crackle amber brown glaze that glows in the sunlight, hints of blue-greens, dripping white flow snow accents and a red-brown raw clay base after being “kissed by fire”.
Inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand’s native bush and snow-capped volcanic mountains. Each piece in this series is handbuilt from layers of clay and original in both shape and finish. Can be used as an incense burner, baseless mini flower vase or mini pot cover.
