Description

Raku object vessel, untitled, 2022 by Karen Wilde.
Size: 8.5×11.5×10.5

Inspired by starry night galaxies reflecting off glistening rocky New Zealand coastlines with copper reduction and off-white glazes. Changing colours in the light: blues, blacks, burnt yellows, gold, greens and reds.

Handbuilt from red clay with oxide and site-specific organic slip,
Raku fired to earthenware temperature, 1000 degrees Celsius*

This heavily textured sculpture was pulled red-hot from the raku kiln and transferred to a firey reduction chamber with combustibles. This produces unpredictable surface colours and glaze patterns while leaving smokey scorched marks on the raw clay areas.

*Decorative object for dried flowers, earthenware is not recommended for functional use (holding water).
*Actual colours may vary based on individual screen monitor settings.
