Description
Raku object vessel
Size: 8.5×11.5×10.5
A planet’s glow in water’s mirror bent,
Distorted, twisted, in the lake it went.
A shimmering orb, in ripples caught and curled,
A cosmic vision, in the lake unfurled.
But in the dark, a reflection’s true form hides,
A warped glimpse, of otherworldly tides.
Still it shines, a beauty to behold,
In the lake’s depths, a story yet untold.
Inspired by starry night galaxies and full moons reflecting off calm New Zealand lakes at night. Changing colours in the light: blues, blacks, burnt yellows, gold, greens and reds.
Handbuilt from red clay, site-specific organic slip and copper reduction glaze, Raku fired to earthenware temperature, 1000 degrees Celsius*
This heavily textured sculpture was pulled red-hot from the raku kiln and transferred to a firey reduction chamber with combustibles. This produces unpredictable surface colours and glaze patterns while leaving smokey scorched marks on the raw clay areas.
*Decorative object for dried flowers, earthenware is not recommended for functional use (holding water).
*Actual colours may vary based on individual screen monitor settings.
