Raku object vessel, untitled, 2022.
Inspired by starry night galaxies and eroded, textured nature surfaces with a copper reduction glaze that change colours in the light: blues, blacks, greens, gold and reds.
Handbuilt from red clay with oxide slip,
Raku fired to durable earthenware temperature, 1000 degrees Celsius*
This textured sculpture was pulled red-hot from the raku kiln and transferred to a firey reduction chamber with combustibles. This produces unpredictable surface colours and glaze patterns while leaving smokey scorched marks on the raw clay areas.
*Decorative object for dried flowers, earthenware is not recommended for functional use (holding water).
*Actual colours may vary based on individual screen monitor settings.
